In 1957, a
group of concerned citizens founded what is now Irving Cares with the
statement, “Cooperation is the answer.” It is in that same
spirit that we raise money to support the self-sufficiency of our
neediest neighbors through the 18th annual Great Harvest.

The Great Harvest
provides a golden opportunity for us to share our community spirit while
supporting the mission of Irving Cares. We hope you will join us.
Can you ever remember a time when you had to choose between
milk and bread to feed your children, necessary medical prescriptions or
gasoline for the car that will carry you to work tomorrow? These are
choices that hundreds of Irving
families are forced to make on a daily basis.
This is how your gift can help at Irving Cares:
William is married, 33 years
old, and has three children aged 14 years to 3 months. He’s well-educated and has held a
stable progression of professional jobs since the mid 1980’s. But, a few months ago he was laid
off. The bills started to pile up
while he looked for a new position. He worked a variety of contract and
temporary jobs and finally found good, stable employment. Then a notice came saying his water was
being turned off due to non-payment.
William contacted Irving Cares, and we assisted him by paying the majority of his
water bill so his family could afford to keep the service. He mentioned his interest in working a
part-time job to help catch up on his bills, and we provided job
referrals to help him locate additional employment. He later wrote saying, “I would
like to thank you for helping our family.
Your assistance really helped us sustain utilities at a time when
finances were minimal.”
Your continued support of The Great Harvest ~ an Evening to Care
makes possible a web of support that helped nearly 25,000 Irving
residents last year; families who generally never expected to need
help.
